What is Resume Builder + ATS Score?
A Resume Builder + ATS Score computes resume builder + ats score from the inputs you provide. It applies the standard formula to the values you enter and returns the result instantly, without sending any data to a server. Recolor to any of 9 palettes.

About this tool + how it works
This tool runs 100% in your browser - the libraries load from a public CDN and the math runs on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. The underlying logic is:
ATS score = matched_top_keywords / top_25_jd_keywords * 100 Where top_25 = 25 most-frequent non-stopword tokens in the job description. Matched = those that also appear (case-insensitive) anywhere in your resume.
You can verify by opening the browser developer tools and watching the Network tab; you'll see no requests fired during normal use beyond the initial page and library load.
Real-world scenarios where this tool helps
Job hunters with multiple targets
Build one master resume. For each application, paste the JD and tweak bullets to push the ATS score over 75%. Try a different layout / color combination for each industry.
Career-changers
Use the live preview to test how your transferable skills read. Reorder sections to put relevant work first. Sidebar layout works well to spotlight skills.
New grads
Start from a clean template instead of paying for premium resume sites. 81 free combinations cover every industry from finance (Executive in navy) to design (Creative in coral).
Updating an old resume
Paste your old resume content into the form, get a modern PDF in 5 minutes. Swap layouts and colors until you find your match.
Designers and creatives
Use Bold layout with a Plum or Rose accent for portfolio-style applications. The gradient header bar reads as confident without going overboard.
What this tool does
- Provides a structured form for name, contact, summary, work history (multi-row), education (multi-row), skills, and certifications.
- 9 layouts: Modern (clean accent rules), Bold (gradient header bar), Executive (centered serif, double rules), Sidebar (two-column with colored side rail), Minimal (light weights, hairline rules), Tech (monospace with terminal-style prefixes), Creative (italic Georgia), Classic (formal hard rules), Compact (one-page).
- 9 accent colors apply to any layout: Indigo, Navy, Emerald, Teal, Coral, Amber, Rose, Plum, Slate.
- Exports the active layout + color as a PDF using jsPDF (client-side, no server) - colors flow through to header, section labels, rules and accents in the export.
- Scores ATS keyword overlap when you paste a job description.
- Lists missing high-frequency keywords so you know what to add.
- Mobile-friendly editor - form and preview stack vertically on phones with horizontally-scrollable template tabs.
What it does NOT do
- Doesn't write the bullets for you. You provide content; the tool formats and scores.
- Doesn't run the actual ATS systems (Workday, Greenhouse, Lever each have their own parser). Our score is a proxy for keyword overlap.
- Doesn't save your resume - close the tab and it's gone (no signup means no cloud storage).
- Sidebar layout uses two columns. Most ATS parsers handle it, but if you're worried, fall back to Modern or Classic for absolute single-column safety.
- Doesn't import from LinkedIn or PDF (yet). Paste your content into the form.
Common mistakes and pitfalls
- Stuffing keywords. ATS systems and humans both notice. Match the JD honestly; don't pad.
- Using a flashy color for a conservative field. For finance / law / government, Slate or Navy reads better than Coral or Rose.
- Saving as a Word doc when the JD asks for PDF (or vice versa). Read the application instructions.
- Including a photo. US, UK, and Canadian ATS systems often penalize or strip photos; skip them unless applying in EU/Asia where photos are common.
- Forgetting to update the ATS score after each edit. The score only updates on input; check it after every meaningful change.
Frequently asked questions
Is this resume builder really free?
Yes. Free forever, no signup, no watermark, no premium upsell. Everything runs in your browser - including PDF generation.
How many templates are there really?
9 layouts and 9 accent colors, which combine into 81 distinct templates. Pick a layout via the tab strip, pick a color via the swatch row underneath - the preview updates live.
Which layout should I pick?
Modern or Sidebar for tech / startup / design. Executive or Classic for finance / law / academia. Bold for creative / brand-led roles. Tech for engineering. Minimal for senior leadership. Compact when you need to fit a long career on one page.
Which color is safest for corporate applications?
Slate or Navy. They read as monochrome but still feel modern. Indigo is a strong neutral choice for tech and consulting. Coral / Rose / Amber are best for design and creative-adjacent roles.
How does the ATS score work?
We extract the 25 most-frequent non-stopword keywords from the job description, then count how many appear in your resume text. Score = matched / 25 * 100.
Will I beat real ATS systems with a 90 score?
Probably yes for keyword filters. But ATS systems also parse layout and formatting. Our score is a proxy for keyword fit; visual ATS-friendly is built in via single-column layouts (and the Sidebar layout is wide enough that most modern parsers still extract correctly).
Can I save my resume to come back later?
Not in this version - the tool is stateless by design (no signup). Copy your form values to a notes app or download a PDF you can re-import via copy/paste.
Does the PDF colors match what I see on screen?
Yes - the PDF generator pulls from the same color palette as the live preview, so the accent color you see on screen is the accent color in your downloaded PDF.
Can I add custom sections (Awards, Publications)?
Not in this version - the form has fixed sections. Use the Certifications field for awards, publications, or anything else you want listed.
Will it work on my phone?
Yes. The form and preview stack vertically below 900px wide, the template tab strip becomes horizontally scrollable, and PDF download works on any modern phone.
How do I add a photo?
We don't support photos because most US/UK/CA ATS systems penalize them. If you need a photo (EU/Asia applications), add it manually after downloading the PDF.
Can I cancel a recurring subscription?
There is no subscription. The tool is free and there's nothing to cancel.
